My team members find it difficult to assume responsibilities and when I am not present, they do not work well. Is it up to them or to me to initiate and do something to make them more reliable and efficient?

Answer

Responsibility is a two-way street, but the person in charge always has more power and responsibility. Managing the team efficiently and effectively is not an easy task - besides being a boss, you must also be a leader for your team. A boss obliges his staff to carry out work, a leader inspires, encourages and guides them, thus influencing them to work in the desired fashion. Having said this, it is also necessary to add that you are not born a leader. Attitudes, behaviors and communication styles, if learned and practiced well, can help you become a leader.
