How long does it take to do a brief strategic therapy?
Answer
Following its definition, brief strategic therapy is a targeted psychotherapeutic intervention that does not exceed 20 sessions. This kind of intervention must also produce substantial improvements with the problem (if not its complete resolution) during the first 10 sessions. In fact, if the therapeutic techniques are well chosen and applied, they can induce changes as soon as the first session. It’s a rule that strategic therapists (that are affiliated with the Strategic Therapy Center in Arezzo, Italy and supervised by Prof. Nardone) must constantly verify the efficacy of their interventions and ask for the direct supervision of Prof. Nardone. In the case that no change is observed by the 10th session, the therapist will then refer the patient to a colleague from the same or another approach. By ending the therapy at the 10th session and in the absence of changes, the therapist avoids becoming an accomplice to the problem and contributing to the attempted solution that is maintaining the problem, rather than fostering its resolution.
